Termination of employment

Article 27

(i) The length of notice required to be given to terminate employment is as follows:

By the Employing Authority
Period of Continuous Employment Minimum Notice
2 weeks or more but less than 2 years 2 weeks
2 years or more but less than 12 years 1 week for each year of continuous employment
12 years or more Not less than 12 weeks
By the Employee
Period of Continuous Employment Minimum Notice
1 month or more but less than 2 years 1 Week
2 years but less that 4 years 1 week for each year of continuous employment
4 years or more 4 weeks

Note: Certain types of gross misconduct may lead to summary dismissal.

(ii) Where an employee fails to give or serve the prescribed period of notice, the employing authority may offset against any amounts (including accrued holiday entitlement) due to the employee a sum for the period of notice not served.
