Attendance at day release or evening classes

The full cost of day release courses, may be allowed at the discretion of the Accounting Officer. The course of study however, must lead to a relevant qualification which will enable the civil servant to undertake duties in their current position involving these new skills. This could, for example, apply to Secretarial staff who wish to attain the shorthand or audio grading standards. Attendance on such courses should be counted as official duty.

Where a civil servant cannot be released to attend a Day Release Course in accordance with Regulation G11, the department should consider meeting the full cost of an evening class.
