Employers' duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act

An employer has a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 as applied to the Isle of Man, to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable the health, safety and welfare at work of its employees.

In general terms employers are expected to:

  1. ensure and maintain safe and healthy working conditions and methods of work
  2. provide safe plant, machinery, equipment and appliances - and provide instructions/training on the safe methods of their use and
  3. provide safe methods for the handling of materials and substances - and provide instructions/training on the safe methods of their use
