Transfers to other departments

a) After consultation with the department concerned, a civil servant may, in his own or in the interests of the Service, be transferred from one department to another by the Public Services Commission.

b) Civil servants of the same grade serving in different departments may, with the approval of the departments concerned and with the consent of the Public Services Commission, exchange posts.

As a general rule, civil servants are normally expected to complete at least 2 years in each post before seeking a transfer to another department.

This rule may be waived by the Public Services Commission where the special circumstances of a particular case warrant it. This rule does not apply in the case of a civil servant seeking promotion.
