Dress code

A10

All civil servants are expected to dress in a manner which suits the nature of their work as, at all times, they represent their individual department and the Civil Service as a whole.

Their appearance should be clean, tidy and acceptable to the wide cross-section of 'customers' with whom they come in contact.

It is in the best interests of staff and their departments that they create a good impression at all times and set a good example to colleagues, both senior and junior.

It is also important that the dress code conforms with safety requirements particularly where machinery is being operated.

Accounting Officers have responsibility for ensuring adherence to the dress code and that appropriate standards of dress are reasonable and non discriminatory. Accounting Officers have discretion and authority to maintain these standards accordingly.
