Notification of Sick Absence

E2

Civil servants must inform their Line Manager when they are unable to attend work due to incapacity in accordance with the requirements of the department. Usually, the line manager should be notified within one hour of the agreed start time on the first working day on which the civil servant is unable to attend work because of illness. Where, exceptionally, such immediate notification is not possible the Counter Signing Officer may accept a reasonable explanation for failure to notify the line manager.

Where a civil servant is to undergo elective surgery (i.e. of their own accord), refer to the Elective Surgery policy in the Public Services Commission Civil Service Regulations Handbook 2015.
