Probationary guidelines

These guidelines apply to Isle of Man Civil Service employees only.

Probationary period

  • Starts job – new Job holder starts position and begins Induction process
  • 1 month – Job holder and reporting officer meet within 1 month of starting to set objectives, discuss competencies for the role and assess training and development requirements for the probationary period and a PDR form is started
  • 3 months –  A performance review is carried out, reviewing progress on objectives and competencies using the interim review scheme on the PDR form. Section A of the Probation Period Guidelines form is completed and sent to the Senior Nominated Officer and the Office of Human Resources.
  • 6 months – A further performance review is carried out, reviewing and rating the objectives and competencies. The PDR form is completed and sent with Section B of the Guidelines form to the Senior Nominated Officer and the Office of Human Resources.

On receipt of the PDR summary sheet, the recommended outcomes will be confirmed via the Office of Human Resources. Where applicable, the relevant pay section will activate an increment at the Job Holders next incremental progression date. A further meeting is held to set objectives and discuss development for the forthcoming PDR year.
