2022: A Year of Action!

This year, for Isle of Man Government staff there will be no ‘Have Your Say’ engagement survey in favour of a ‘Year of Action’ to allow time to use 2021 survey results in the most effective way.

Time to Review: This means taking time to review your results, analyse the data and understand what it means for your Department, Division or Service Area. Have scores shown improvements since the last survey? Are scores above or below average? Did engagement and staff happiness increase or decrease as the year continued? What events or changes could have influenced scores?

Time to Plan: Ok, we’ve got our data, what’s next? What are you going to do with the results? What could be better? What needs to change? What is and isn’t working? What needs to happen in order to make the change happen? Who will own and implement the actions? What do the actions look like?

Using the data, identify the areas that require the most attention and work with Organisational Development and Design (OD+D) to develop effective action plans using SMART objectives.

Time to Act: Now we have our action plan, it’s time to implement it. How will progress be monitored? How will progress be communicated and to who? How will success be evaluated?

What is Action planning?

Action Planning is an approach, which helps focus ideas and decide what steps you need to take to achieve goals. It is a statement of what you want to achieve over a given period of time.

Preparing an action plan is a good way to help reach objectives. An effective action plan should give a definite timetable and set of steps.

Each action step should include the following information:

  1. What needs to change?
  2. How are these changes going to happen?
  3. Who will carry out these changes?
  4. By when they will take place, and for how long?
  5. What resources (i.e., money, staff) are needed to carry out these changes?
  6. Communication (who should know what?)
